The nearby city of Cortona, where, walking through its characteristic medieval alleys, we will admire ancient churches and elegant Renaissance buildings and we can visit the two city museums, the MAEC, which preserves the famous Etruscan Chandelier and theMuseo Diocesano, with the stupendous Annunciazione of Beato Angelico and the exciting works of Luca Signorelli, without forgetting the imposing funerary monuments from the Etruscan era called Melonilocated outside the cyclopean walls surrounding the historic center;
Castiglione del Lago, the town-castle, which is entirely surrounded by its medieval walls and stands on a promontory which directly overlooks the waters of Lake Trasimeno. We will visit the majestic Medieval Fortress, with its Keep which stands 30 meters high and the 16th century Ducal Palace, entirely frescoed. We will stop to admire the seventeenth-century church of San Domenico and the church of Santa Maria Maddalena, from the late 19th century, but with valuable paintings from the previous Romanesque church. The walk along the panoramic route under the external walls, the so-called Poggio Olivato,is also extremely pleasant;
Arezzobirthplace of the great painter and architect Giorgio Vasari, with the famous Piazza Grande where the Giostra del Saracino, takes place annually, the ancient church of S. Domenico hich preserves the famous wooden crucifix by Cimabue, the church of S. Francesco with the unforgettable cycle of mural paintings of the Leggenda della Vera Croce by one of the greatest masters of the Italian Renaissance, Piero della Francesca.
